What are some of the ways your State Association obtains funding to staff an Executive Director or other employees? We do not have any consistent, reliable funding to do so and would like to hear how you address this issue in order to grow the Association.
Thank you,

Delaware obtains funding for its state association (including my position) solely through our Districts’ membership fees. I think we might be the only state that works this way though. I’m part time, and along with a part-time bookkeeper, we’re the only staff for DACD.
Our Districts administer a lot of projects- Farm Bill, state cost-share, partnership initiatives- and I think it’s the cumulative administrative funding from all those programs that give them the resources to support DACD the way that they do.
The other thing to note is that we don’t charge any of our events or anything throughout the year. The Districts pay their membership dues and then they’re done.
Hope this helps!

Washington generates funding through member dues and via native plant sales from the WACD Plant Materials Center. (The PMC sells to members and non-members, and we are careful to carry conservation-grade plant materials that are not commonly available through commercial nurseries in our state.) We also get some funding from NRCS and the Washington State Conservation Commission to perform some specific tasks.
Best,
Tom
